  • Since 2015, Art Made This has transformed Swedish cityscapes into open-air galleries where women artists claim a visible space in the public realm. Through a collaboration between curator Ali Davoodi and the socially responsible property company Vasakronan, more than 130 large-scale murals now punctuate the streets of Gothenburg, Stockholm, Malmö and Uppsala – each one a landmark, each one a statement. These works do not wait to be sought out in museums; they confront passers-by on their daily routes, weaving art into the fabric of everyday life. At the heart of the project lies a belief that art in public space should not only decorate, but also question and inspire.

  • Each mural is a gesture of representation in places where women artists have long been underrepresented, adding diversity to the city’s visual language and creating moments of reflection in settings ranging from industrial zones to historic neighbourhoods. By amplifying women’s voices in the most public of arenas, the project sparks dialogue about equality, representation, and belonging – turning parking garages into galleries, streets into stages, and the urban landscape itself into a platform for contemporary art. The works challenge norms, create spaces that belong to everyone, and stand as living proof that even small interventions can make cities more welcoming, inclusive, and alive.
